Chantey...

A sea mist brings her fragrance as I
Ponder the endless rolling billows
Of meaningless thoughts in my head
So I close my eyes and mind and listen

Hushed by a scent I hear the chanteys
Of far away lifetimes and dreams
Spilling out upon the sand like foam
Of waves sent from distant visions fair

All hands on deck they toil and sing
Weighing anchor and I am afloat
Ebb and flow of beating heart’s drums
Keeping Time with her memory’s tune

Seer...

The sun cast tiger stripes upon the ripples
An ancient ruin once thought holy stands alone
From the edge of a cliff a seer watches
And mysteries unfold

In tidal pools just below me bathes a maiden
She suspects she is alone I believe
Her head turns slightly I see her eyes
She knows well I am here

We play this game from Time to Time we do
I will seek and she will hide amidst names
And places within worlds so far away
And yet I see her always

When I dream

Shhhh...

Can you see me when your eyes slip shut
Can you feel my breath on your skin
Can you smell me as I hold you tight
Within your dream

Do you sense me lying there silently
Do you feel my body cradling yours
Do you taste that kiss in the night
Thinking it’s not true

We are not from here my Love
These things we do are very real
They are a part of what we both are
Beyond this place

Hush now darling Soul of mine
Rest your heart in my embrace
Let me carry you through the night
Until the morning comes

Wishes great...

Would I possessed the skill to pen unending lines
Of courtly love and undying affection
Yet words have no meaning within the heart
Poised to surrender itself to itself

Would that my vaults were filled with jewels rare
Such metaphors of passion deep and sweeping
Far into the valleys of my aching soul
Dry from lack of Time with you

Would that my eyes could see no beauty for
They would only long to praise you
As your silhouette melts away the blasphemous
Creations of lesser, unskilled gods

Would that the depths of this yearning were
For all accounts only a stubborn fantasy
A dream you say that will not leave me
Yet haunts me in the daylight

Uranius...

Thatch roof village nestled along a harbor blue
It is early morning and I sit atop a not so
Distant hill looking down, waiting
For the suns to crest the eastern mountains

No movement below. There never is as I
Meditate here at dawn each day and
Feel grateful that I have those
Who sleep serenely below me there and dream

I feel the warmth on my naked back now
As the first of the sister stars appears
And my shadow creeps down the hill
To touch the great ocean’s hem in love

I breathe in deeply and feel my skin dissolve
Exhaling I am a gull in effortless flight
Who sees fish swimming beneath the surface
Of gently rolling briny waves of cerulean

I breath again and slice the clouds which
Make pilgrimage toward the distant
Deserts bringing rain and life and tales
Of exotic islands lost merrily at sea

I stumble back to my place of thought
My memory has wandered far this day
A familiar sound of lover’s heart
Has brought me visions of distant lands

There in the square a stirring, a movement
My eyes behold an apparition fair
And she calls me, with a song so sweet
My heart, my soul, my hope my love

Though...

Though I have traveled many worlds
And walked the Earth as God and King
My path has seen no greater joy
Than walking next to you

Though I’ve been born both dark and light
A star that lives and dies in one
My body has known no warmth
Like being held within your arms

Though I have sailed the seas of countless worlds
On waves of green and placid blue
My soul has known no greater peace
Than the respite which I find in you

Though I have spoken many tongues
And sang of beauty so divine
My lips have never known of such
As a tender loving kiss from you

There...

In the silence of the night
Where only ghosts and stars
Move about in mist covered fields
And night owls call out in yearning
You are there

In stillness of water stirred
Only by the light of the moon
And timid creatures who come to drink
With wide eyes open ever aware
You are there

In hushed willows weeping not
Their shadows at peace against
A sky of dreams made constellations
And pictures of gods and such
You are there

Inside a chest once void
That housed only the steel heart
Of a warrior and beast so wild
Now reborn as poet
You were always there

The other side of moonlight...

The winter sky bursts at the seams
A celestial overflow of spilling stars
The crisp cool air stings my nose and ears
Countless fires above yet a chill on the wind

The moon has ventured near tonight
Her light so strong and yet sublime on one side
Hiding the other like a forgotten memory
The dark side of Clair de lune

An infinite game of imbalance we play us two
As I long to see what lies beyond the face she shows
And I wonder how far away I must fly
To break free of the pull of Earth

I pray to her, Shall I choose today or wait to receive
The benefit of the choices of another
Is there light beyond that which we see
I await in silence her reply

A single tear from heaven falls upon the dust
Leaving no empty space from whence it fell
Make a wish my love she whispers
And my heart becomes the evanescence of a dream

Her Morning Elegance / Oren Lavie

Phantom...

A herd of cloud stallions thunders
Across your indigo sky
And I have died a thousand deaths
To become one of them incarnate

A flock of fiery stars swarms aloft
You wish upon a falling one
And I cast myself from heaven forth
To be your wish even for a moment

You close your eyes, the world sleeps
And you begin a dream
I hide my face behind the veil and
Pretend I am a thought therein

Then morning comes and I fade
Back into the mist

Paint...

Days filled with colorless moments
Like canvasses without forms or hues
Devoid of meaning and filled only
With anticipation of a vision to come

Many are these manifestations which
Without your smile lack in structure
Without your scent are bland and
Like words unspoken stand for nothing

Yet Hope is deep within my heart as
She crests the night sky shining her love
Filling my palette with hues of
Desires for the taste of her delicate skin

Then I create and revealed are we as one
Entwined in a lust-filled embrace
Bleeding skin into skin and hearts
That swirl together and become paint

Passion's heart...

With quill in hand and ink in well intending to pen lines
I drift into a dream
A tender voice I’ve known so long whispers from within
I am yours come home

I startle then I am awake. I’ve heard the call before now
From visions passed
I remember the silhouette of her against the light of the moon
And my heart burns

So many levels into the dream and I have lost my way there
Beside passion’s heart
The noble quest has lost its worth as I desire to be near her
Within reach of her kiss

Unconditioned...

You need not say a thing to me
I know we live in different worlds
I told you that I love you dear
That was unconditioned

You need not fear the dream my heart
Let fantasy take flight and play
Believing makes the heart go blind
Love is just a knowing

Our paths did cross upon this world
God knows I’ve wished that now and then
But had they not I loved you still
Until the dream it ends

Now lay your head upon my chest
And hear my heartbeat race for you
I told you that I love you dear
That was unconditioned

Letting go...

There are certain songs
That as they play I think of you
Not like I normally would

There are those moments when
Though I have often seen your face
I lose myself within your memory

To dream or not dream
Such a silly question dear
With mind aloft and thoughts of you

The tune is playing now and I
Abandon earthly chores and fly
Circumnavigating my soul

My poetry changes
My eyes are blind
I am held captive in your smile

Respite...

I’ve cast the thunderbolts from heaven
And watched them fizzle away to nothing
Stroked my beard and wondered why
But no secret stones rolled back the riddles

I’ve churned the oceans in my mind
And saw the foam slip away unnoticed
And the waves never returned home
To shores I missed making love to you on

I sneaked across the high mountains
Like a storm cloud fading on the other side
Raindrops flowing like silent tears
Of a widow awaiting a return that will not come

Then stopping suddenly I heard a voice
That called me from the stillness there
Between the cracks and crevices I had torn
Deep into my seeking soul without remorse

And sweet respite found me weeping

Porticoes...

Can we dance my dear
Among stars and planets and skies
And just be with one another
Tossing wishes like petals of roses

Can we kiss for now my love
And fall asleep embraced as one
To a lullaby of angels tears
Wrapped in waves of precious memories

The music is there my heart
As we spin slowly through time and space
And our dreams take on life
To become the porticoes of heaven

Satin skies...

Satin skies pale against her skin
The sun timidly peeks around her silhouette
She smiles and I am a vapor
Lost to the winds of her heart

Eyes so deep I see forever
Their magical light as deep as infinity
She looks my way and I am a cloud
Vanishing beyond the horizon of Time

Her song rings on the air and my heart
Crumbles like the walls of Jericho
She speaks my name and I am forever
Adrift within a blissful dream

Memories...

Moonbeams, stars and setting suns
Apples cooling on a stick
Apricots and dates and figs
Tender notes played on a harp

Love’s first kiss or broken heart
The feel of having lost but loved
Drying eyes and sad goodbyes
Subtle breezes on my neck

Once upon a time ago
Fairy tales sung by a fire
Whispers between you and I
I’ll love you ever more

RĂªve En Bleu...

Reflections of a far off star
On mirrored pond’s face
A gentle breeze and stillness dies
In its wake a shadow

Rippling wind on water
A change in vision for me
Lest I should stare into the night
And slip slowly into madness

RĂªve En Bleu
And silver moon
An echo in the distance
Love’s sweet song is calling

Home in the morning...

The crystal skyline of endless spires
A hue of royal blue
A breath of day lingers on the breeze

The twin suns’ setting now
And time has come
To dream a dream of other worlds

Azure eventide turns its face
To crimson then to black
A silence freezes still the moment

We lie down now amidst our joy
And darkness takes our sight
And lets us take the journeys of our lives

The two will wander in the night
Apart but not alone
Awaken when their time is done

Silly dreams or fancy dreams or
Grand deeds to complete
The morning brings them home again

The Green Children - Life Was Beautiful (Part I)

Well of memory...

I dip my chalice into the well of memory
Slowly sipping the cool wine from within
The taste is sometimes bitter often sweet
Yet the elixir does neither evil nor good

Again I raise my cup and the crimson body
Of things I once thought to be a dream
Sparkle as I gently swirl the drink in the light
The aroma reaches me; it takes my mind

I become aware that my eyes are closed
I wonder how I see without seeing
It is the wine, the fruit of my yesterday
Its oaky richness cradling my soul

I open them slowly, reluctantly yet
Curiosity and desire have claimed me
In your eyes I see my own and know
That this moment was born of your kiss

She...

A hush and silence and the air is filled with her scent
She glides across the room to where I wait in awe
Her feet never seem to touch the earth
But my soul is filled with her

She speaks so softly and the music of her voice
Can be felt across the universe I’m sure
Her lips are where I want to be now
My mind is free to dream

Her touch is as gentle as the first powder snow of winter
But it warms me through and through with joy
Her arms I feel around me and
My heart is free to fly

Twas in a dream...

Twas in a dream I first saw her face
While standing on the shores of
A far distant heaven bathed
Within her light

Sparkling rays of sunlight kissed by
The locks of her hair rejoiced
As they fled back toward
A pale blue sky

She stood a motionless silhouette
Or was it me who did not move
Frozen in Time by the scent
Of her velvet skin

All around the sounds of music yet
The only artesian near was her
Smile pounding out an allegro
With my heartbeat

Twas in a dream I first held her close
And our skin became one flesh
Her every breath feeding me
Now I am alive

Yet also there I left her sleeping
Her world to create and dream and
Slowly I slipped away to watch
Her from the shadows

Twas in a dream
Twas in a dream

Imperishable words...

Like the fragrance of lilac hanging aloft
Over which the breezes have no dominion
Her words upon a wing still dwell
The air around me all the sweeter for them

Like the taste of honey clinging to
The comb and not departing soon
Her kiss still garnishes my lips
And the hunger for more burns within me

Like the sound of fairies’ wings aflutter
Just barely grazing my weathered ears
Her laughter has me bound and tied
Within a spell of otherworldly craft

Imperishable words call out to me

I love thee now and for forever

Nebula...

Kindred soul I sing to you
My heart agleam in disarray
Embowered by the words I speak
Riddles none of them to be

Nursery rhymes and pleasantries
They go astray cast in the night
Perchance they may just find your ear
Or forever drift in space

Attach to it I dare a tune
Lest some cold narrative you see
Not void of love mistakenly
But seen for prose unto thee

From Orion’s heated loins
The birthing place of suns and stars
A quiver in my soul does stir
Just to view a lover’s face

Silent curse...

In silence I curse the night
For it brings the taste of wine so sweet
Yet is surely followed by a yearning
That cannot be quenched

I despise the day for it brings death
To my dream which breathes in darkness
And though I choose not to leave it
I am expelled into sunshine

Bitter tears and emotions flow
For my mind is ripped from its place and
Tossed about in chaos of uncertainty
Yet merrily I venture forth

Bring not the day to me oh sun
Let darkness shroud my aching heart and
Hold me close and warm until
The dream comes to an end

For the green leaf thrives
Amidst the blue sky and whistling wind
But the dream dies silently, surely
With the return of sanity

My heresy...

The skies were so empty last night darling
The stars were distant and pale
A wisp of a cloud hanging in the stillness
No rhyme no reason to it all for me

I thought of you, you knew I would dear
And started painting in my mind
Imploring constellations now yield to me
And tried to draw your face on high

A million futile efforts or more went by
Until the heavens begged for mercy
And I let the stars sleep a while in silence
And the galaxies churned away

A heresy from me it was to try to
Replicate the perfection that you are
Your eyes and hair and silky skin
The complexities of you my love

First night...

Her hands bound by violet tethers
More for effect than restraint
Her eyes covered by velvet
Lest she should enchant him

A distant weeping violin and remnants
Of a Cabernet glistening
In subdued candle's glow then
Silence but for her breathing

Gentle lips wander and fade
Returning from nowhere to her flesh
Inviting insanity with each touch
And slipping away

The taste of chocolate remnants
Where lipstick once was and
Half eaten fruit on the floor
Next to sheets and pillows

The moon hides her own face now
He has finished his taunting and
Though they've played many times
This is like their first night again

Echoes...

Scattered far and wide across his dream
Like seashells in the morning tide
Waiting to be found and treasured
By some wandering child of fortune

His thoughts they now take wing and fly
Aloft upon her memory’s breeze
Soaring higher in trade winds free
Then vanish in the distance there

A melody from Pan’s own lips across
The pipe’s of lover’s hearts
Send echoes toward the setting sun
A day long he has yearned for her

And in the stillness of the night
As shadows of the day wane fast
And others close their eyes to sleep
They hold each other trembling

In the rain...

The fragrant Earth passes into twilight
As the last fishing vessels return from the sea
To calls of gulls and excited children
Accompanied by clouds of rain

We sit here still and silent not minding
As the sky begins to gently weep
Perhaps of joy for love like ours
That she witnesses from above

I look at you and drops tickle your nose
You smile and wipe one from my cheek
I am frozen by your touch and
Through the mist your eyes I see

Like two candles in the rain

Eclipse...

The misty sunlight enters his tomb, the day
Stirring the tiny ships moored in the harbor
The moon has again faded away
Bedding herself in gossamer linen
And waves on distant shores of starlight

He rubs his sleepy eyes and scans the distance
In search of the one his soul chases each day in vain
Knowing his light chases her from the world
Her light draws him away to dream
And neither can be one with the other here

He recalls the few moments when the two meet
High upon the heavens as he covers here
Or she covers him and they embrace
For moments as the world watches
Their lights are hidden by their eclipse

The Corrs - Only When I Sleep

Elfish hands...

I heard a voice upon the wind
Though this is nothing new to me
I harkened unto it and found
A melody was sailing by

A lire playing in a room
In darkened lonely netherworlds
And strummed it was by Elfish hands
A maiden from the distant realm

I heard the voice and listened long
Entranced I lay upon the sand
And watching cloud ships sailing by
Soon found myself on distant shores

“Oh maiden fair” I begged of her
“Your song has touched me tenderly
I’ve traveled far into this land
Grant me now but a glimpse of thee.”

And in the darkness looming there
Up high above the sleeping world
In light of candles glowing bright
A shimmer of her I did spy

Never shall I forget the day
When upon foreign soil I
Lifted my heart and eyes to see
My dream become reality

You came to me...

I can still feel the warmth of your skin
I see the rise and fall of your breasts
As you calm your storm
After we made love

I still smell the scent of your silky hair
As it slides across my face
When you tease me
In the moonlight

I can still taste your kiss so sweet
Forever will it remain
A reminder of the night
You came to me

Winter night...

A winter night’s cool embrace
Draws me closer to you
Nestled in your arms I feel
The warmth that grows within

I close my eyes that see too much
And let my soul song guide me
We stroll along a distant shore
Our feet are barely moving

Can I touch a place in you
That rivals what I’m feeling
That churns the darkness of the day
And sends you freely swimming

Or shall I want for nothing less
Than to live within a heartbeat
Neither born nor conjured still
A piece of your dear being

That winter night with its cool arm
A thought of you still lingers
Within a heart that’s sailing home
Just there on the horizon

Sliver of a moon...

A sliver of a crescent moon is all the light you need
To steal the soul from within my chest
As it hints at your form upon my sheets

You move and in my mind a ship sets sail abroad
The waves of the mighty ocean yearning
To take it and devour it as I desire you

Yet too soon I shall not yield to your skin for
In the anticipation lies much pleasure
And the moon beams have not ended their dance

You hair has covered your eyes in the night
A travesty for certain or perhaps grace for therein lurks
A siren who has coaxed me, lured me here

With every breath you bless this place and
Your silken movement and my heart races
Your skin, the light, my lust, our love

Under the sliver of the moon

Soliloquy...

Magical words in precious ink
A golden quill in hand
From depths of hearts bubbling forth
And none describes her scent

Enchanting melodies composed in love
On harps of silver strings
Brought to life and set free on a wing
And the notes are flat in her presence

Ten thousand subjects adore
A king from distant Times
Treasures beyond compare and measure
Yet a pauper is he without her

There in the faintest of spilled starlights
Sitting near a pool of glass
She combs her hair and steals his soul
His heart is hers forever

Our twilight...

Diffused and weakened she lays her head
Upon pillows made of yesterdays
Her long train of moments behind her had followed
Sweeping from the land all hints of my yearning

In twilight I await her there where neither
Day nor night exist I claim my bride
The perfume of her soul she offered and I
Drank of it to excess and still thirst for more

Whilst in the valleys of the morning tides
Lay waiting wolves of dreams undreamed
I shall harbor her within my heart and
None shall have her in this night save me

For in the vestibules of waking lives
Where all is lost and all is won I
Look into her sleepy eyes and
Lament the coming sun…

Moonlit things...

When the moon is full and the night is silent
And I find you in my dreams and cannot sleep
I slip away without leaving my bed
And I fly into the night to be with you

I am a ghost to all below, I am but a shadow
But I hear you calling my name dear
As I race past weightless clouds and stars
Then the scent of your soul pulls me

I hear you calling my name love and
I land next to you as you sleep deeply
The night upon your skin enslaves my eyes
Yet I wonder what it is you are dreaming now

I watch you sleep and I feel you breathe
A few moments more I must go again
Time takes me back and I awaken in the night
Nearly breathless with thoughts of moonlit things

Candle light...

In candle’s light her form from across the room I see
Each flicker revealing more than the one before
Tis a dream I think or by fantasy that I am in this place
Awash in feelings of reverence and fear

Ah the candle’s glow it seems would taunt me more
Each moment as I watch her caress her hair with
The tortoiseshell comb I gave as an offering
And I catch her scent and am ever lost

She stands and nears me now making captive of
Each beam of light she touches with her naked skin
And with one tilt of her head her neck to my lips
She bares and my longing can wait no more

In candle’s light from across the room I saw
The queen of my heart innocently sitting there
And in the darkness of the night within a dream
I gave my soul to her

My Aubade...

Ten hundred lines of diction quaint
Clever couplets end the verse and still
I lose you to the day…

Shackled by rays of sun and bound
By daylight’s wicked spell my dream
Bleeds into the morning…

Yet after dusk when fires die and
Maidens fair have spun the stars
To blankets for my darling

I shall venture forth into the darkness
And fly among the comets wild
To steal a kiss from her

Then as again the day returns she
Sheds a tear which I do catch
And hold until the evening

A day I spent...

You know the way the wooden oars sound
When I clumsily pull them into the boat
Remember how I like to hear the drops falling back into the river
You watch me and smile half sarcastically

Do you recall the way I smiled when you would shiver
Because I knew you would seek the warmth of my embrace
And my heart would pound so loudly
The swans would swim away

Can you still see me reaching out to guide you back on shore
I braced myself to catch you if needed
Lest you should fall to Earth
Like some angel gift from heaven

Can you not hear me singing still to songs on the radio
While you sleepily watched the trees race by
On our way back home together
From a day I spent in love with you

Chocolate...

Unhurried and silky like melted chocolate
Our bodies flow gradually into one mass
The music in the room comes not from
Instruments made by men

A single bead of sweat on your nose and
As it falls upon my chest it thunders and
I breathe deeply, filling my lungs with you
Inside me you burn so sweet

The lights are off and yet brilliantly
You glow in the shadows of passion
I am blinded by your eyes and careless
Thinking nothing now

I pulled the shades earlier love to keep
Away the sun because Time has no place
Within these walls this night this way
It’s just you and me

And some chocolate…
